The 27th Annual Solomons Race is also running this night. It starts in Annapolis at staggered times from 1850 to 1945. Please read the excepts below from the Sailing Instructions for the race:
EXCERPTS FROM THE EYC SAILING INSTRUCTIONS FOR THE 27TH ANNUAL SOLOMONS INVITATIONAL.
1.2 From sunset to sunrise, when two boats on the same tack are within three boat lengths of the longer boat, the boat clear ahead may not sail above her proper course, and the boat clear astern, if she elects to pass to windward, must do so at least two of those boat lengths from the leeward boat.
The important point about this instruction is that if we are running the Southerly course (as is likely) to Madison Bay or Hudson Creek, an overtaking boat in the race may expect you to sail a more southerly course than you plan. Radio communication with overtaking boats is encouaged.
15 RADIOS
15.1 Radio and cellular communications shall not be used to obtain navigation or weather information except that which is available to the general public on standard VHF channels.
15.2 Boats are encouraged to monitor VHF Channel 16 and make contact with commercial traffic on VHF Channel 13 as required for safety.
15.3 The RC will attempt to monitor VHF Channel 68 throughout the event.
In light of the use of Channel 68 by the Solomons Invitational, we will be switching to monitoring channel 72, in lieu of channel 68, as previously advised.
