Sailing TOTEM-A Family Afloat/World Cruising Adven...
Author Last Post
The s/v TOTEM presentation was outstanding, with photos, stories and tips from cruising 2,988 days and 49,183 miles to 30+ countries, spending 180 nights at sea and being hit by 3 rogue waves.  After the presentation, several attendees made their way to HHN, Slip E-6 to see and tour TOTEM and have a chance to chat more with Behan and Jamie and their children, Niall, Siobhan and Mairen.  Thanks again to Tracy Eve for bringing Behan Gifford and her family to our attention and to HHN and Brad Wells, Entertainment Coordinator, for their generosity in sponsoring the presentation, providing snacks and beverages and for making it possible for TOTEM to have a slip at the marina.

I have posted a photo album from the presentation and the tour of TOTEM.  The presentation video is available for viewing on the Herrington Harbour North Facebook page at https://www.facebook.com/HerringtonHarbour/?hc_ref=NEWSFEED. Please note that the sound gets better after a few minutes into it, so please be patient.

Awesome news!  The presentation will be live streamed on Sailing Totem's and Herrington Harbour North's Facebook pages, and HH Marina will post the video on their YouTube page for future viewing!!

If you are on Facebook, find Sailing Totem and HH Marina pages and "Like" them, then in the dropdown menu, make sure you have Notifications checked ON (LIve Videos) and you should get an alert about the streaming.

Many, many thanks to Brad Wells, HH Marina Entertainment Coordinator, for all his efforts to make this a success!

We're still working on dockage at HHN so that we can have an "open boat" afterwards.

Ladies I wish I could join you! But I watch "babysit" Hispanic children at my school while their parents attend a free English class. I hope it is as good as last month's! Will try and make Nov. if it's not on a Wednesday!

Unfortunately I think I'm returning guests to the airport that day. Sorry I'll miss this.

When we decided to extend our Women Underway season a bit longer, Tracy Eve and Margaret Stewart told me about a posting on the "Women Who Sail" Facebook page by Behan Gifford and her interest in speaking to a group on the family's 8+ years of adventures cruising through the Pacific, Indian, and Atlantic Oceans, and learn what it’s like to raise a family afloat. After reading Behan's story, I decided it would be better to do it during the day to open it to all HHSA members and HH slip holders.

The Gifford's are in the Chesapeake Bay for the first time and will be passing Herring Bay on their way from Annapolis to Solomon's, so we took advantage of that itinerary to arrange this presentation in partnership with Herrington Harbour North at the West Marine Loft on Sunday, 10/23 from 4 PM to 6 PM.  Behan is excited about this event because she loves to share their experiences. See the attached flyer which HHN put together to post on the bulletin boards - you're the first to see it!  Pass the word so we can get a good crowd!

HHN said they would work with us to arrange a slip at HHN so we can follow with an "open boat" crawl aboard s/v TOTEM, their 47' Stevens, to see how they managed to downsize with five aboard.  That part has not been publicized yet, so it will be an added benefit for attendees.

Even if you might be cruising that weekend, as I plan to be if the weather is suitable, I hope that, as part of Women Underway, you will be able to get back in time to attend.  Please register on the Event Calendar if you just think you might be there. I haven't decided about refreshments yet, not sure if that is possible via HHSA with our limited budget.

Thanks!
