When we decided to extend our Women Underway season a bit longer, Tracy Eve and Margaret Stewart told me about a posting on the "Women Who Sail" Facebook page by Behan Gifford and her interest in speaking to a group on the family's 8+ years of adventures cruising through the Pacific, Indian, and Atlantic Oceans, and learn what it’s like to raise a family afloat. After reading Behan's story, I decided it would be better to do it during the day to open it to all HHSA members and HH slip holders.
The Gifford's are in the Chesapeake Bay for the first time and will be passing Herring Bay on their way from Annapolis to Solomon's, so we took advantage of that itinerary to arrange this presentation in partnership with Herrington Harbour North at the West Marine Loft on Sunday, 10/23 from 4 PM to 6 PM. Behan is excited about this event because she loves to share their experiences. See the attached flyer which HHN put together to post on the bulletin boards - you're the first to see it! Pass the word so we can get a good crowd!
HHN said they would work with us to arrange a slip at HHN so we can follow with an "open boat" crawl aboard s/v TOTEM, their 47' Stevens, to see how they managed to downsize with five aboard. That part has not been publicized yet, so it will be an added benefit for attendees.
Even if you might be cruising that weekend, as I plan to be if the weather is suitable, I hope that, as part of Women Underway, you will be able to get back in time to attend. Please register on the Event Calendar if you just think you might be there. I haven't decided about refreshments yet, not sure if that is possible via HHSA with our limited budget.
Thanks!
