I am looking for 2-3 crew to commit for the Governor’s Cup Yacht Race Friday, August 4 – Sunday, August 6, 2017.
Start time PHRF non-Spin is 3:05 PM at approximately 100 yards due north of Annapolis Channel Red Bell Buoy R ”2”.
Depending where I have the boat the night before, will depend when we must provision and leave the dock. If I can get an overnight slip near Annapolis lined up, we can leave "not so early."
We can carry 6 total, but I think 5 will be ideal for our non-spin class.
This will be my 1st Governors Cup race. So, this is all new territory for me and my 1st mate Steve. My daughter who has no race experience may be crew and hopefully will have some experiences by then.
So, I am looking for 2-3 able bodied crew who are comfortable with night sailing in all weather.
Please note our PHRF is 234, so we are not a fast boat. We should have a good inventory of sails to maximize all points of sail if there is wind. It goes without saying, but I will, crew will need to stay focused to keep the speed of the boat going at maximum in order cross the line as early as possible. ;) We likely will be the highest rated PHRF boat in the fleet. That said, I don't want to be the last over the line! With fair to good conditions, I believe the boat can do really well. If we get a 4-5 kt avg for the course, we are talking 18-15 hrs, which could put us in the money!
Environment will be casual, fun, with the primary focus to sail as fast as possible. We'll need good conversation and communication to stay focused!
Two comfy births will allow helm, sail trim, and navigation watch rotations.
Beware, the head on a C&C 24 is not so private. We'll have a curtain up for privacy.
to prepare, you can crew on Wednesday and other weekend races TBD. We will try to do some practice night sailing after other weekend races and other times.
We'll return to Herring Bay Sunday morning after sunrise.
