Skipper intentions for 2018
Author Last Post
Ted,

Please add me to the listing for SA/D 16.91, Spook.  Will not be doing Wed races with Spook but will try to get it together for some weekend races.

Rich

Thanks to all who replied.  I've attached my current scratch sheet which indicates that 25 have paid the 2018 racing fee for 24 boats.  I encourage those who have not paid for 2018 (shown in blue) to do so promptly.

Below is where I think we currently stand for Wednesday racing in 2018.  Please correct any errors in my assumptions.

Spinnaker:
Committed:  Delirium, Cantata, Endeavor, Glissade, Jubilee, Put-in-Bay, Uncloudy Day
Maybe:  Allegiant, Amara, Chaotic Flux, Spirit replacement
Not racing:  Coyote

NonSpinnaker Racing:
Committed:  Avalon, Carolina Blue, Liberty Prevails, Red Sky, Resilient
Maybe:  Amara, Smoke

NonSpinnaker Cruising:
Committed:  Gaia, Second Wind, Spirit - until sale, Velocity, Whoosh
Maybe:  Adagio, Endless Journey, Kaya, Mirabelle, Tuanis, Wild Goose

Pending additional commitments, this supports the plan for a single spinnaker class, and for a combined start for the two Non-Spinnaker classes; a decision I will finalize by the March 17 general meeting.

Ted,

The current PHRF Cert for Spirit lists her UW SA/D as 15.33.

PS - I forgot to add.  Please confirm your upwind Sail Area-to-Displacement ratio.  I've taken most of those shown on the scratch sheet from web sites, such as sailboat data.com.  The value for your boat appears on your PHRF certificate as UW SA/D, but that value is not included on the list of valid PHRF ratings provided by the PHRF web site.

Ted

Bev,

It is not on the short form PHRF sends with renewals, but it should be on the full certificate.

Velocity - due to work schedules will be occasional on Weds.  We will work harder on the weekends this year, in order to support the club.  We will try to hit many other distance races as well.

Please pray for wind.   next time it is less than ten knots, I am bringing out the Melges.....

Sail fast, Live Slow
Liberty Prevails plans to race on Wednesdays and weekend races in Non-Spin.

Eunice
Spirit will be racing on Wednesday nights in the Non Spin Cruiser class. However, she will be listed for sale in the Spring to allow us to move up to a Spin B boat. So, if you know anyone interested in buying a well cared for cruiser racer, send them my way for a test drive.
Endeavor will be racing Wednesday nights, weekends, and CBYRA events.

Please note my new direct phone# is +1.443.646.3465. My old number 410.272.4848 has been disconnected.

Combining the two Spinnaker classes.  It is neither fair nor fun to race against two or three boats, or against yourself which often occurs when there is only four or five active boats in a class.  The downside is a Spinnaker class with a much greater PHRF rating range.

Your input is needed prior to making any class changes for 2018.  I know it is early, and no one will be keel hauled or hung from yard arms if your intentions do not come to fruition.  I ask each skipper to indicate their intentions to race on Wednesdays and Weekends next season.  Do you intend to race regularly, or occasionally on Wednesdays?  Do you intent to race regularly or ocassionaly on Weekends?  You may reply to this forum, or to me directly at slotwita@yahoo.com.

Carolina Blue plans to be a regular on Wed. most likely in Non-spin 2018 and then back to Spin B. We will be occasional Sat racers, but I plan to increase our participation.

Cantata intends to race in spinnaker B class Wednesdays and weekends as much as the boat will tolerate next season.  I am against joining the two spin classes into one.  Most of us in spin B have never been able to compete with the Spin A boats as evidenced by results from the years before the spin class was split.  I feel the solution is to recruit more spinnaker boats into racing with us.

Cheers,
Hank

Delirium intends to sail with the spinnaker fleet next season as often as my work schedule will permit.

Ted,

I am too new to HHSA to comment on your recommendation (looks good to me?) and just trust you and others have thought that through.

I personally would like to try and increase my participation in Wed night races; but can only make two a month with my work schedule. Perhaps there can be a weighting for periodic participation? I will try to make as many weekend races as possible.

Hope this helps, happy holidays; great work this year; thanks for making us feel welcomed!

Ted,

I plan to race non-spin next year.  i am fine with the proposed class splits.  I may be doing a lot of traveling next summer as well as some extended cruising, so it is possible that I will only make half the races or fewer.

I would like to try spin, but it would be too much of a stretch in 2018. We will keep to non-spin and try to improve.
Hi Ted

Amara will continue to race fairly steadily on Wednesday, with occasional weekend races. Not sure whether we will be spin or non spin, we will decide that in the spring.

Thanks
