Women Underway in HHSA

Women Underway had another great meeting on May 10 at the Gedunk - 12 cruisers/racers showed up, bearing all kinds of goodies and beverages. We even had a couple of new attendees from Annapolis and West River - we are really excited that word is spreading.

The main topic was the upcoming June 16 Women's Regatta. As of laat night, we have five skippers who intend to race. We identified several potential skippers amd Emily will contact them about finding a boat or racing their own boats.

Two women are looking for a ride: Kathy and Debbie.

We are planning to have the Skipper's meeting at the HHN Flagpole, as has been the custom in past regattas. We hope to have the post-race party at the Gedunk.

The regatta will be non-spinnaker only. Bev suggested that the group be split into separate racing and cruising classes, based on S/A ratios, rather than PHRF.

Eight HHSA members will be attending the Marblehead Women's Sailing Conference in early June. Sounds like Women Underway on steroids! We look forward to hearing their report on June 10.

Discussion continued about a diesel engine course and Bev will work with Margaret S. on finalizing plans.

Other topics of interest for future meetings are docking and a how-to session on safely climbing the mast (don't look down).

Don't forget - the next meeting is 6:30 pm on Thursday, June 14. While we will touch on the Women's Regatta, let's plan on having an open discussion about what YOU want to talk about - do you have a question about maintenance, cruising tips, etc.? It will be a good opportunity for the newer and less frequent attendees to participate. We may have to bring a talking stick . . . . .
