Hi Ladies,

Just preparing for tomorrow night’s Dock Hop.

First, the racy message that came out was not from me!!  Larry is sending these out under my name. He has had a lot of fun coming up with clever things and some entertaining pictures!  I am fully expecting him to show up in a toga – he’s into it!

Second, I’ll be arriving by 5:00 pm.  I’m bringing a bottle of Ouzo for a raffle (and possibly a second bottle for doing flaming shots for those so inclined!)

For food:

Bev is bringing dolmas

Emily is bringing tzatziki and pita chips

Noel is bringing baklava

I am bringing a LOT of Greek salad, some feta and hummus – any maybe anything else that looks good when I go shopping.

Emily has offered to go get long tables, and Larry said the Club will provide plates, cups, napkins and cutlery.

Not sure what kind of a turn-out we’ll have given the heat, but hopefully enough people will show up to make it festive. If I have time to go to Michael’s Crafts, I will see if they have any gold laurel wreaths for sale. 😉

Opa!

Kathy

Emily - I didn't know that we had long tables, but I think that even one long table would be helpful, to free up the small square tables.  Thanks for mentioning!

Hi all !  I’m sorry I won’t be able to be a geek 🤓, I mean Greek with you -
I’m headed for Canada to be a Nanuke of the North instead !
Hope you have a blast and I look forward to seeing you at the August WU meeting.

Kathy, I'll bring tzaziki with pita chips on Friday.  I can also get the long tables from the storage locker at HHS if that would be helpful.  Also, if needed, I have a very large cooler which I can bring and fill with ice.

Hopefully we'll get more registrants so we'll have an idea of how many people are coming.  Thanks so much for taking the lead on this!

Kathy, thanks for your update on the WU-sponsored Dock Hop.  It would be good to have a more developed write-up that highlights that Women Underway is hosting.  In general, they are always "pot luck" re attendees contributing the food although we can agree among WU to each bring one of the dishes mentioned just to be sure of a good variety.  I'll bring dolmas/stuffed grape leaves!  I think the club has a stock of napkins but Greek-looking blue and white tablecloths, IF you can find them, would be cool - of course, here's a link to Greek-themed items on Amazon, such as small stick flags and plates, but I don't see any Greek flag cocktail napkins.  I'm happy to contribute to the cost of these things.

Hello Ladies,

First of all, congratulations to everyone who competed in last Saturday's Regatta - what a great event! There certainly was a good blow on Saturday!

Now for the next event - the dock hop. Larry has put the basics in the calendar, but I will be sending him a slightly more developed write-up. I am wondering if there would be any interest in taking a slightly different twist on this one, and have it be a little bit pot luck and little bit WuW-hosted party? We could do a sign-up sheet for Greek mezzes (tzaziki, hummus, pita, dolmas, olives, baklava, etc.) and perhaps several committee members could volunteer to each bring one of those in enough quantity for 15-20 people? If that feels like too much of an expense, no worries.

I will get napkins, blue and white table cloths, and a few other trimmings. Larry said we could sponsor a contest and award a prize that the club would reimburse. I was thinking of the best short dramatic reading of a favorite Greek chorus from an epic or play? I recall there was a poetry contest at an event 2 summers ago, so something in that vein except people wouldn't have to write their own!

Let me know if there are any other thoughts/ideas/inspirations, etc. Cheers! Kathy
OK, a toga party, that's funny!! I was thinking more about the Greek food than dressing up, but for the Viking, they bought some Norwegian flags as decor, etc. Right, Larry and gang are on the Tangier cruise. OK re coolers.  Yes, the Dock Hops are usually from 7-9 so getting there at 6 or 6:30 is good enough.

Thanks Bev, Yes I'm in touch with Larry. He's currently out of town but
we'll connect next week on everything the Club can provide. Chris and I
also have a couple of coolers, so can bring those. I don't think we'd
start the dock hop until 6:30 to allow set-up time, but I requested it
for starting at 6:00. There's never usually a large group of people
hanging out there anyway, so I'm not too concerned if we start a little
earlier with moving tables and chairs, etc.

We need some fun, Greek-themed acoutrement. Perhaps some olive head
wreaths and togas?? ;)
Certainly some picnic items - dolma, tzaziki, hummus, etc.
Once I confer with Larry, I'll come back to this group with more
details.

cheers all,

Kathy

Kathy, great news about the WU Dock Hop and for taking the lead. It has to be put on the HHSA Event Calendar, so did Larry say that he'll add it?  Very few people have access to add events. It hasn't been added yet. Some of us need to be there around 5:30 pm to move tables into place.  I feel like the club has table cloths, but might want to ask Larry about that.  As far as beverages, we'll need some coolers and I don't know if the club has any in the HHS locker. I have one or two.  We'll have to buy ice for those.

Hi All, I have finally heard back from Lucy, and we are approved to reserve the Gedunk patio for Friday, July 19 from 6-9 pm. The theme will be Greek! I've let Larry know and he'll publicize it for us. He also said the Club has plates, cups and disposable cutlery we can use. Please let me know if you're interested in helping to organize- I'm really not sure what all needs to be done, but can't be that hard. I'm happy to take the lead.
Cheers,
Kathy
