Last night was one of the better nights of sailing all year.  Nice turn out and great job on RC.  (It was nice to get an hour long race!)

The preliminary results are attached.  I did not include the possibility of Snacktime retiring after finishing (RAF).

The question came up on the race course and at Skippers afterwards - what happens if you hit a finish mark after you get the horn?

RRS definition of Racing:
A boat is racing from her preparatory signal until she finishes and clears the finishing line and marks or retires, or until the race committee signals a general recall, postponement or abandonment.

RRS 31:
While racing, a boat shall not touch a starting mark before starting, a mark that begins, bounds or ends the leg of the course on which she is sailing, or a finishing mark after finishing.

RRS 44.2:
One-Turn and Two-Turns Penalties
After getting well clear of other boats as soon after the incident as possible, a boat takes a One-Turn or Two-Turns Penalty by promptly making the required number of turns in the same direction, each turn including one tack and one gybe. When a boat takes the penalty at or near the finishing line, she shall sail completely to the course side of the line before finishing.

So, if you find yourself in this position, you can still finish properly only after taking a one turn penalty and returning to the course side of the line and re-finishing.  It doesn't matter when you do the turn, so long as it is done before re-finishing.  The most efficient way to get this done is to make a turn around the mark, but keep in mind that you have no rights while making your turn so you have to be clear of other boats.

Thanks,
Keith
