EYC Leukemia Cup
Eunice - Liberty Pre
EYC has finalized the Leukemia Cup details. Attached is the NOR. There will be a race from Herring Bay to Annapolis - IF there are at least 3 boats registered by May 31. There also will be a big party afterwards, of course. And the more, the merrier. Come out and support a great cause.

If you think you'll be racing in Annapolis instead, let me know and I will pass it on to EYC.

Newbie question. I'm looking at the NOR, and it doesn't make sense to me. It says:

6.2 The Herring Bay Fleet will race on Chesapeake Bay.

and:

The Herring Bay Fleet will sail one (1) government marks course on Chesapeake Bay

Neither of those indicate a point to point race from Herring Bay to Annapolis. What am I missing?
Kent
William, your need to get the SI (Sailing Instructions). They will provide the info you need.

I get that they would be in the SI, but the SIs aren't posted until almost at the close of registration. How do I know if I want to register if I can't know the course? That doesn't make any sense.
William Kruse
I want to get crew together and put my boat in her first race, but it's hard to get crew together with enough notice if I can't tell them how long to expect to be out there, etc.

You'd think there would be a bit more info to help with that in advance. This isn't my first time racing, but it is my first time racing my own Cruising boat (PHRF) versus my laser or on others' boats. It just seems like this should be easier to figure out. It makes it hard to get new people racing if it isn't simple to register.
Doug Ellmore, Sr.
Bill,

I would recommend you say ALL DAY. Is there a party afterwards? Then night sail home or stay overnight? Its not a Wednesday night beer can race.

Here is a copy of the DRAFT EYC Sailing Instructions for the Herring Bay race. Please remember to get the official SI from the EYC website once they are posted.

Thank you!!!!

I see there is one registration on the site for Amara. I'm thinking of putting Nauti-Paws in for the racecourse Non-Spin from HHS to Annapolis. I have one crew confirmed and am waiting on the second confirmation. Are there any other boats going to sign up? I think we need a minimum of three to race, correct?
Michel

I hope so!

If three don't sign up, what happens?
Michel

No race is my understanding. I am trying to talk a third boat into it, but encourage all other racers to join the cause!

We'll be racing non spin.

Nauti-Paws is signed up! It's her first race.

Cantata registered non-spin so that we have at least 1 full fleet.  Go Nauti-Paws!

Hmmm...

Registered Endeavor for PHRF - Spinnaker from Herring Bay.  I'm very lonely in this class.

Are all other HHSA members registering for their PHRF class starting in Annapolis?  Sure would like us to support the club and do the Herring Bay spinnaker race...

Respectfully,
Steve
William Kruse
If there aren't enough Spin, would you consider moving over to non-spin and racing with us?

Any chance that someone can grab my skippers bag when they pick their bag up?
Michel

And mine?

For those participating - EYC is having a conference call at 0700 on Saturday with all PRO's to discuss weather and the possibility of thunder storms etc.

I will post to this Forum any relevant news with respect to decisions made on that call.

If you want to call me directly after 0700 to get an update, please call me on 301-503-4634 (mobile).

Thanks,
Keith
Michel
Thanks

Amara is leaning towards not going given the forecast.  Thunderstorms and rain … meh!

Let's wait and see what the weather actually is ... look at last night. Forecast was for light winds and thunder storms/rain.

I agree but we are making it an outing, coming Sunday.  I was going on a "cruise" race with a guest.  Sunday looks like rain all day.  If I want to turn someone off sailing for good, I couldn't pick a worse weekend

Endeavor is now racing Non-spin. Decision based on northerly wind and competition against all you knuckleheads.

Let’s see what the weather brings and that 07:00 conf call Keith is talking about.

Steve
William Kruse
Nauti-Paws will be there unless they cancel.
Michel
Amara had to decide now, and we're passing. Have fun out there.

Bad news. My crew is acting restless, and I've had to call it. Nauti-Paws will just have to wait to race her first race another day. This weather downright sucks.
Stephen23
Keith,

If we have less than three boats on the line for the race, do not the SI’s tell us that there is no race?  I am not convinced the SI’s only speak to registrants, rather they speak to actual racers.

Help please. If Nauti-Paws and Amara are out, then we can not start a race that would only be Cantata and Endeavor.

Please note my new direct phone# is +1.443.646.3465. My old number 410.272.4848 has been disconnected.

Respectfully,

Steve,

As far as EYC is concerned, if we get one boat to start, they will award a trophy - which is sitting at the EYC Clubhouse.  CBYRA will probably group all PHRF starters together to score High Point, so that is not an issue.

So, to answer your question - yes it will be a race if just you and Cantata race, yes I will be out there to get you started, and furthermore there may be 1st and 2nd Place trophies ... I was not able to confirm that.  Either way I will be presenting to the winner(s) tomorrow afternoon at EYC.

Now, all of this is dependent on the decision that will be made at 0700 tomorrow.  I'll call both you and Mark as soon as I get off that call.  Also, keep in mind that this is a Charity Race, so participation and raising money is for the good of Leukemia and Lymphoma Society.

Thanks,
Keith
William Kruse
I'm happy to hear that. I can't tell you how bummed I am. Fair weather crew I selected :(
William Kruse
Great news. I found another crew member, and Nauti-Paws is back in the game.
Keith
The race organizers have decided to continue with plans for racing today, based on changing forecasts and diminishing chances of nasty weather, until later in the day, if at all.

With that, Jubilee will be at HHSA A at 9:30.  Listen on VHF 68 for possibility of moving the start to 83A, in accordance with the SI 11.3.

Thanks,
Keith
