Racing Program
Herrington Harbour Sailing Association's racing program encourages participation of both novice and experienced sailors. The objective of sailboat racing at HHSA is to promote friendly competition while testing the skills of the skipper and crew in the spirit of fair sailing as defined by the United States Sailing Association "The Racing Rules of Sailing, 2009-2012" (RRS). A boat and her owner should compete in compliance with recognized principles of sportsmanship and fair play. The racing program is administered by the all-volunteer Competition Committee. You can see the current members of the CC and send them a message on this page.
For further information about the racing program contact Rear Commodore - Racing Arne Fliflet at racing@hhsa.org or 703-919-1735.

Race Committee Assignments
All racers are required to serve as race committee (RC) for at least one High Point HHSA event per year. Many racers and cruisers enjoy the spectacle of the front-row seat that being RC provides. So that this volunteer duty does not affect a boat's competitiveness, the HHSA Rules specify that redress be given when scoring the RC. This redress is the average performance of the boat in similar events. See above document for current list and please sign up for open dates.
Before going out on the water as the RC, you may want to review the Race Management Presentation which is also available in pdf format. This will provide a quick review for planning and setting up for a successful outcome, and reinforce the starting sequence rules and conventions. Remember that the HHSA Race Committee Manual and HHSA Racing Rules, as well as the Racing Rules of Sailing (RRS), are the definitive resources. These documents are great for crew as well!
