CRCA Announcements

CRCA Members and Racers - We have a number of recent changes to share with you, both challenges and opportunities, which will also necessitate the modification of our previously announced schedule by a few weeks. Please see below.

Personnel Notes

Jay Tyson, the founder of CRCA, is taking on a more significant role with ORA, and so has made the difficult decision to step out of the roles of direct CRCA support that he has filled since the organization's inception. He will focus his energy on other areas of racing fleet development on the Bay and around the country, including introducing VPP-based ratings products to club- and fleet-level racing. Jay will be available to us on a consulting basis as we learn how to pick up the mantle from him.

We’re also very happy to announce that Robert Michaelson, recently retired naval architect and CRCA class racer as of 2020, has joined CRCA to strengthen the ranks of the Technical Committee and assist with Fleet Development on an acting basis.

On this note, CRCA is looking for more folks to help out, especially with fleet development (assisting appointed captains of fleets that are in the development stage) and as race liaisons (coordinating CRCA classes and entrants for the OA's of races with CRCA classes - especially members of the OAs' clubs). Please contact us at info@chesrca.org.

Updates

Robert's arrival and expertise has given us the opportunity to re-visit the methodology with which we compute CRCA class splits and assignments. The goal is to use metrics that are more transparent in their definition and that will be scalable to other fleets. However, the analysis is involved and we will want to take the time to present the results to the members in a more detailed manner than providing simply it as an amendment (though it will eventually become that).

We’ve also been preparing for the annual CBYRA scheduling meeting by providing information regarding CRCA class rules, standards, and naming conventions as well as formulating the annual series and ensuring that we have CRCA class starts in the component races.

Given these new plans, we'll need to delay our previously published schedule for amendments, elections, and the annual meeting by at least a couple weeks, and we'll send out an updated schedule soon. Stay tuned for more details as we have them.

Thank you for your patience! V/r, Erik Halverson
