Sharps Island Race
Author Last Post

Thanks to Doug and Revolution for running a great race and bringing wind!

I posted pics (unedited) from our encounter with the big ship and some pics of Spook with the kite flying.

Eunice

Amendment 3 going back to the original SIs and cancelling the previous ones is now posted and attached here

Now we need some wind

Michel

Thanks to Kent (and Patrick) for offering to get us started, and thanks to Doug and his crew for volunteering to do RC for tomorrow.

We have a bunch of people signed up to race tgis year that haven't signed up to do Race Committee. This is a problem ... just saying.

Keith

I am on the road. But this is the better option.
Thanks Doug. Much appreciated.
I will cancel the amendment tonight. I believe at your discretion and by announcing it over the radio that one start only for non-spin is fine as there aren't many boats.

Doug,

Just take a pix of the sign-in sheet with whatever finish times you have and text it to me (703-508-1385).

Thanks,
Hank

I am sorry for being late in jumping into this. REVOLUTION can do RC for the event. We will do starts and record finishes within the scope of the SIs.

This will allow for a regular start and finish. Breeze looks light to good for the start. Models look better after sunset. We will put in an order for a moderate breeze for everyone to have a good race.

I believe the standard SI's state:

In order for the race to qualify, the lead boat in each class must finish within six hours of the class start. The Race Committee will stay on station until at least 90 minutes after the last class qualifies. Boats finishing after the Race Committee has left station shall take their own finish times in accordance with HHSA Rules 7.C & 8.B.

Those finish times could be sent to revolution4515@gmail.com & hgchalkley@gmail.com. I will have sent times if we leave the station after the required time to Hank.

Let me know,

Doug

s/v REVOLUTION

That is an RC decision prior to the start. Depends on the wind. For Non Spin, most likely is short

Course "U" short or long?

Glissade has volunteered to do the start (but not the finish) of the race. A new Amendment is posted on the racing page and is attached here. Pay attention to the finish procedures. Also there will be no horns or gun, sounds are the radio announcements.

Gaia plans on racing Sharps Island.

Good solution.  Thanks.

Hank

We will do a Rabbit Start. Amendment 1 to the SIs is posted on the racing page and attached here. Pay attention to the addition of a tetrahedron to make the rabbit start an upwind start.

See you Saturday.

Michel

Jubilee will race Saturday.

The Lemans start looks like fun, but boats with small crews will be disadvantaged.  Sail Flow predicts the wind to be easterly at 5 kts.  A rabbit start could work as the wind is pretty close to the rhumb line course to 81A.  I'd prefer the rabbit start.

Cheers,
Hak

I like this idea. Since Ted has run this kind of start for CHESSS, we'd be happy to volunteer LP as the signal boat, if approved.

Suhr la Mer is planning to race, our first race of the year.

Jim Suhr

If no one volunteers to be the RC, and since a rabbit start only is fair if the first leg is upwind, what do racers think of using a Lemans type start. I've attached a draft which could become an amendment to the Sailing Instructions.

Just a suggestion.

Ted

yes for Revolution.
