1st Congrats Mark!
It was great to see folks competing for one of the toughest leadership positions in the club. It was great to see the resumes of the candidates and get some of their perspectives, too.
Keith, I am sure you will continue to weight in with your sage perspective. Don't stop.
In 2016, after I got my 1976 C&C 24 Red Sky, we raced at the end of the season with PCRC on the West River after I got my 1976 C&C 24 Red Sk. While I very much enjoyed racing on the West River as crew in my youth and some as an adult, I wanted to see if there were any other local options.
I stumbled upon HHSA and joined in 2017, we've learned so very much about racing and the sailing "Corinthian" sportsmanship with the HHSA fleet. Racing with HHSA has prepped us a lot for the other CBYRA races in ways I am not sure PCRC would. We make mistakes and learn from them. All good times.
I sold Red Sky in 2019 and purchased REVOLUION with the goal of having a larger boat and racing the Annapolis to Bermuda (A2B) in 2020. With the cancellation of A2B in 2020, we have kept our hopes up for 2022. Next year our sailing focus will be the A2B and then a bit more cruising. I am on the A2B RC planning committee this time, which is a learning experience. It is interesting to hear some of the area sailing talk that is not all A2B. Next year we plan to race a little before A2B and little after, but priority after A2B will be to chillax a bit.
I wanted to share this because I think the RC should always consider the goals of its members. Reaching out to them is important.
Members should always feel comfortable about speaking up and sharing their ideas, too.
Please engage the competition beyond the initial goal setting at the start of the year. Monitor from them what works and what is not working.
Thanks again and good luck Mark!
Doug
