Women Underway in HHSA

On the water sessions
Author Last Post
Margaret,

All great ideas!  I can do weekends, or summer weekdays (when school is out).
I would be happy to lead/co-lead anchoring or sail trim on the water or go out sailing with no targeted skill.
I'm not interested in paying an instructor for skill training.

Hi everyone!
There has been a lot of interest expressed in doing more things on the water this year, and I’m all for it. I’d like to propose the following sessions, and get your feedback. First, one or more close quarters handling sessions (docking, standing turns, just getting through the marina), second, anchoring, third, practice sailing with other women.

For the close quarters sessions, if we can, we should do it before too many boats are in the water so we can spend the day docking in any slip we want, including the floating f dock, and when it’s really quiet. Anchoring we can do later, and we can repeat all sessions as desired.

Here is my thinking on options:
1. Go out with whomever is available; no particular skill set targeted, although someone should be pretty comfortable with boat habpndling
2. Engage one or more of our experienced women sailors or instructors within hhsa to lead us on one or more boats
3. Engage one or more of the experienced male sailors or instructors in the club to lead us on one or more boats. There are a couple of names that spring to mind.
4. Engage a woman instructor for outside the club.

Some of these options might require a fee.we might want an instructor for one session, but not others. We would need a boat that is in the water early or stayed in all winter to do an early session (I have a possible boatin mind). And for sail8ng, we can just do ad hoc sails.

We might do a weekday to avoid being the daily entertainment, and avoid traffic.

What are your preferences? Would you be willing to pay an instructor? What skills do you most want to work on? When would you like to do this? April? Later? Weekday? Weekend? Is your boat available for this? I’m offering Yamadu up for anchoring practice. Once she’s back in the water and the stop engine pull is fixed.

Let me know your thoughts. I look forward to making this happen.
