Women Underway in HHSA

March Brunch/April planning
Author Last Post
Eight women met for the third and final 2020 Women Underway winter brunch at Joe Theismann's. Everyone present remarked that Theismann's was a great place for our brunches thanks to validated (free) parking at the King Street Station garage, tasty and varied food and beverage options, attentive service and a comfortable noise level to allow conversation.  In two hours, we covered several topics - WU Dock Hop, SpinSheet Racing Team, WU Captain, April meeting to visit s/v Maiden, and a Women-Only cruise.

Kathy asked for a consensus, based on the Commodore's inquiry, about hosting the WU Greek Dock Hop on Friday, 6/26 in conjunction with the Women's Regatta on Saturday, 6/27, or to stick with the planned date of Friday, 6/19. The consensus was to stick with 6/19 because some women participating in the Regatta would not be able to stay overnight on their boats and would have to travel to the marina twice and/or race participants wanted to be "on their game" on Saturday.

Dale informed us about the SpinSheet Racing Team which, unlike the SpinSheet Century Club award for logging 100 days on the water, gives points for participating in a variety of sailing-related activities and not necessarily on the water.
To qualify, acquire 25 points by 12/31/2020 by participating in any of the following: Series (fall, weeknight, frostbite); Charity regatta; Volunteer day; Race committee day; Multi-day regattas; Distance or point-to-point race; Attend a racing or rules seminar or class; Single-day regatta; Take a new sailor racing; Donate $50 or more to a sailing charity. Margaret briefed us on the Board of Directors interest in designating a WU Captain to liaison and coordinate WU event scheduling with the Board. Emily and Jayne have volunteered as co-Captains. Margaret will post WU events on the HHSA Calendar and the point of contact for the event will be able to add details to the HHSA calendar.

Rosemary will coordinate the April WU meeting to coincide with the arrival of s/v Maiden in Annapolis between 4/8 and 4/9. The welcoming ceremony will be held on 4/9 and then s/v Maiden will be open for tours from 4/9-4/13. Details will be posted on the HHSA Event Calendar and sent out via forum and email blasts.

Margaret, along with Paula and Andrea, will coordinate WU's first Women-Only overnight cruise. Dates, destination and details are still being formulated. To help plan for the cruise, Margaret will look into inviting as a guest speaker a woman from the Fishing Bay Yacht Club which has already run women-only cruises.

Dates for future meetings will be posted as soon as details are available. We look forward to seeing everyone in April to visit s/v Maiden.
