Despite somewhat less then perfect weather forecasts (You really can't trust these anyway.), Second
Wind will be at HHSA A to check you in a little after 1600 for a 1655 starting sequence. Hope we will have boats showing up for this iconic race and will let you know via VHF 68 as to changes if any.--Joe Howell

Ahoy Joe,
A big thank you for doing RC. Red Sky "may" enter as spin vs. non-spin racer class. We'll decide at check-in and inform RC. I will hope to fly the appropriate flag. I have to get a flag today. Our choice will depend on wind projections and course selection. I know it could be a longer course, but maybe if the wind projectios are forecasted to be light, the shorter course will be select for all 3 classes.
Red Sky wants to finish! We are hoping a spinnaker return leg well help us dramatically.
Cheers!

Wish we could make it, but some of Aurora's crew chose to visit their new grand daughter over racing this weekend?!
Hope you all have a good race,

Liberty Prevails plans to race. But I will have a boatload of guest cruisers so decision will depend on the forecast.

Thanks for stepping in to do RC Joe!
Folks should be aware that our Racing Rules Section 7.A provides for boats taking their own time when an RC is not on station at the finish. Inclement weather and/or diminished rum supply would be a good(s) reason for the RC to beat a path back to the dock - just saying ...

Keith, looks like got two days to get the time into the RC? If you finish within 6 hrs we will be pulling up the rear.

Wise counsel from Jubilee. There is a six hour time limit for the first boat in a class to finish with another 90 minutes for all other boats in the class. The race committee intends to hold out for as long as possible but no guarantees we will be there if it takes six hours or longer to cross the finish line. I have asked the chaplain aboard Second Wind to pray for wind. —Joe

No engine on a distance race and possibilities of T-Storm cells hitting is too much of a risk for my crew. Endeavor will not compete for the Sharps Island race. See y'all Weds!

Red Sky crosses in
5hrs 12 min 8 sec! Just as the wind started to go flat again!
At 8:05 pm we had to start the motor to evade a tanker bearing down on us. We started backing up to 82 but the tanker turned to the mark so we turned off the motor to not move back in their way. We were 4.81 nm from G1 when we turned on the motor and 4.94 away when we stopped. So advantage was made under motor.
Cheers,
Doug

Way to go, Red Sky. Perseverance prevails! Sorry we did not stay on station to give you the cannon.

Joe,
No worries. It was a nice afternoon and evening. Spirit called for encouragement and I told them the wind would pickup after sunset and it did. The speed really ramped up for us with 4.5nm to go and held to G1. After we got passed G1 the wind was a bit squirrelly and started to ease off, but held to allow us to cross the line.
We braved humidity, tankers, flies and realized a nice fresh breeze at the end. It was worth it all to have 90 minutes of fresh breeze sailing.
Red Sky at night, sailors delight!
Cheers,
Doug

Spirit crossed as we were close to G1. I confirmed their crossing on the radio. I never saw their lights though.
We hailed them after we cross at 10:22 as we got finished cheering.

Kudos to all who finished. Second Wind could never have beaten the TLE.

Hank, Spirit crossed the line at 21:57:44.
Not that it matters since we came in first, second, third and last in NC class.
Sorry I am so late with the data, i thought I had sent it Sunday.

Steve, that was a smart call. If you got caught in the doldrums like we did with a tanker bearing down it could have been really nasty.
