Leukemia Cup - Herring Bay Start

Folks,

Hopefully we will get a bunch of HHSA Boats to make the run up the Bay this year. The finish last year was out in the Bay a little north of Thomas Point. Easy to turn and return before dark.

Here is the communication from EYC ...

Hello Leukemia Cup Competitors,

We wanted to let you know that registration is open for this year’s EYC Leukemia Cup. You can register online at http://eastportyc.org/leukemia-cup

The event will be held on Saturday, 19 June 2021.

The entry fee is $150. Registration closes at 2000 hours on Thursday, 17 June 2021. No less than $100 of the $150 entry fee will go directly to the Mid-Atlantic Region of the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society (LLS).

We have something for everyone. In addition to drop marks races on the Chesapeake Bay and Severn River, there will be a pursuit race, and starts from Rock Creek and Herring Bay.

All skippers will receive a skipper bag which includes the following: limited edition T-Shirt, gifts from our sponsors, and post-race food and beverage vouchers. Post-race food and beverage arrangements will be guided by local, state, and Federal health guidelines in place at the time of the regatta.

Hope to see you there!

Val Pendrick

Co-Chair, EYC RC

Amara will take care of the start as we did last year.

Firth of Tay will be joining in. May even finish this year....

We should coordinate on picking up the bags. No reason for a bunch of us driving to Annapolis.

I'm planning to register as soon as I get my updated certificate. Last year I organized an HHSA donation team... I'm willing to do that again if there is interest in it. My thinking is that we can cast wider nets and raise more funds as a bigger group with HHSA's name on it.

I'm in.

I like the group donation Team HHSA!

I think Velocity will enter as soon as I get my Cert. I am willing to pick up the bags as well

Sail fast, Live Slow

John: Will you be picking up the bags? EYC sent an email saying a LLS rep will be at EYC after the race with our stuff. I hadn't planned on docking at EYC.

Stella Maris is working on signing up now. I live in downtown Annapolis so I can pickup if needed as well.

Thanks!

Justin--

Thanks!  I'm planning to grab my stuff on Thursday (I have to head out that way anyway).  Let me know if you need any help getting linked to the HHSA Team page on the fundraising site.

Glad you are signed up!

Jason

Thanks for the offer. I think I may need to take you up on that. I'm registered but I believe I picked the wrong option and ended up with a team of myself.

Disregard, the individual behind the little chat bubble thing at the bottom is actually helpful!

We're in! Just registered.

If someone going up on Thursday or Friday before the race could pick up my skippers bag that would be great. Thanks very much! Roger

I'm going up today and picking up Roger's and Peter's.  If anyone else would like me to pick up their's as well, please let me know by 4PM today.

Thanks!
Jason

Do we know which division will start first Saturday for HHSA?

As per SI 6.1 PHRF Non Spin is first

For those racing from Herring Bay tomorrow, I tried to get clarification as to what was meant in 12.1 of the SIs by "the course side of Severn River lighted buoy "R 2 Fl R, 2.5s."

I really didn't get it super clear but I suspect it will be quite obvious as you approach the line. In any event, below is my conversation with EYC (read from bottom to the top):

Hello Michel,

The finishing line will be between the R2 and the adjacent Signal Boat.

Thanks,

Val

Will you communicate the final location to the Herring Bay racers on Friday as well, folks are puzzled by the meaning of course side for R2.

Thanks

Hi Michel,

Excellent question regarding the finishing line. The Signal Boat near R2 is doing 'triple duty' as the Signal Boat for the Pursuit Race as well as the Finishing Boat for the Rock Creek & Herring Bay races. It will be anchored on a bearing for the Pursuit Race which uses fixed government marks. We will pick the Pursuit Course on Friday. So it will not be anchored on a bearing for a Windward/Leeward course.

Hence the wording in the SIs. So no, please do not assume the "Vessel on Port and R2 on starboard".

I hope this makes sense. Please let me know if you have any questions or concerns.

Thanks,

Val

Hi Val

I am the PRO for Herring Bay indeed: 301 536 8040

I will be sending you the photos as per your request.

I received one question from a racer regarding the SI. On the finish it states : the RC Finish Vessel and the course side of R2 Fl R, 2.5s We understand this to mean Vessel on Port and R2 on starboard, please advise if we didn't get that right.

Best Regards,

Michel

Michel: Thanks for kicking this off. I was a bit confused after I made the turn to port at WR87 and all I could see was a tanker. For a minute I thought, “What an odd vessel to use for the RC boat.”

Cool.. and a little scary.

We have a bunch of photos from the start that I will post tomorrow or Monday

Michel,

Thanks for doing the start this morning. Bravo!

Doug

Our pleasure. Glad all made it in spite of the fickle wind. We raised anchor and sailed over to Knapps narrows and then up by Dun's cove. Spending the night in Tilghman Island. Beautiful day.

for CRCA CBYRA series, REVOLUTION will be doing the start in Annapolis.

Cheers,

Doug

Re HHSA Team Donation Page:

I wrote to them and they confirmed that this year everyone can be a part of an "HHSA Team Page" and/or have an individual page that "rolls up" to the HHSA page for team accounting purposes (while having individual statistics reported as well). I'm going to assume that everyone is ok with at least the former and you can promote whatever you chose, but if you don't want to be connected to an HHSA Team Donation page, just let me know privately and I'll let them know not to connect them.

Re Kick-off Brunch, 4/25:

If you didn't get the notice, if you register in advance for the kick-off brunch on 4/25 and sign up to race, they'll send you Bloody Mary Cocktails.

Thanks!

Jason

How do I link to the Team HHSA donation page on the LLS site?

Peter,

It has not been set up yet, but I should have something in the next couple of days for you.  They are just kicking off the campaign.  However I think generally the way it works is that you set up your own personal page and then they link it to a "team site" that just rolls up all the individual member contributions (but I can't swear to that just yet).

Jason

Ah, OK, thanks. Yeah, I can't remember how it was done last year. Heck, I can't remember what happened yesterday.....

Delirium just registered for the Herring Bay start.

After what turned out to be beautiful evening yesterday (Thanks again to Doug and crew), next weekend is the Leukemia cup.

We currently have 6 registrants for the Herring bay start. Weather forecast (still quite a bit of time left) looks quite good with nice wind which should be lovely for flying chutes.
