Race Committee has cancelled tonight’s race due to sea state and building wind.

REVOLUTION is planning on racing non-spin racing.

Thanks,

Also, if the RC doesn’t feel comfortable getting underway and then Getting back on the dock after sitting at anchor for 2+ hours, that’s ok too.

Thanks for all these replies. We are of the same thought, and are currently planning to have a race tonight.

As far as I know there is not a specific threshold RC's are bound to, though I think the informal guidance is to be aligned with AYC's weather guidance. Excerpt below, but ultimately it is the RC's call and then each skipper's decision to race or not race.

Examples of weather conditions that could potentially cause us to abandon racing including the following:

• A forecast of sustained winds above 20 knots between 1700 and 2000

• A forecast warning of severe thunderstorms between 1700 and 2000

• Observed sustained wind above 20 knots after 1700

• Observed thunderstorms conditions after 1700

If any of these conditions are met, the race committee will probably abandon racing for that evening

As far as I know, we've never had a hard limit on winds and have left it up to the RC to decide based off conditions.

15-20 gusting to 25 from the west gives us very different conditions than the same winds out of the south, for example.

Just so we know, what wind speed threshold (or combination of wind and other factors) are we looking for?  I know the fall/frostbite races have a max wind threshold due to the cold water, but do we have a max wind threshold for the WNR?  Obviously don’t want to be out in the t-storm (but that doesn’t appear to be in the forecast), but rain and wind (that we can reef to) work for us.

Thanks

Amara will be a no show today. We also have to brave the beltway so it's a bit much.

Stay safe everyone, if not dry

Hi All, We are RC for tonight's race. We are monitoring the weather. Forecast is E 10-20k, gusts to 24k. Currently at our boat (HHN F-27) it's a tad higher than what the forecast is (Predict Wind, AccuWeather, Windy), averaging 22k over the last hour.
