West River Race Results
Author Last Post

Kevin,

You are right. The finishing order from my original results document is correct, even if it might not have been for the right reason.

All that matters for a pursuit start is the finishing time.

I will post an update later today.

Jim

In trying to explain it, I see the confusion.

For the results, you'd need to subtract each boat's ToD handicap from their elapsed time to get their corrected time.

Or treat it as "One design" and just list finish times, trusting that the handicap is taken into account in the start time. That's how most pursuit fleets I've seen handle it. Hospice Cup 2024 results attached for comparison.

Hi Jim,
I think this is still wrong. Because the handicap is taken into account in the starting time, we shouldn't look at elapsed time, only finish time, and first to finish wins. Second to finish is second place, etc.

Racers,

The original results were not correct in that they were sorted by corrected time. However, the "correction" was already taken into account with the pursuit start times, so by using the correction process used for regular starts, I was mistakenly adjusting the times twice. Thanks to Ted for pointing this out.

New results posted below. The bottom line is that Firth of Tay and Suhr La Mer have switched places in the Non-Spin Cruising class and also in the shorthanded results.

Revised results attached below.

HHSA racers,

The West River race/cruise/social always a highlight of the HHSA racing and cruising calendars. The event this year did not disappoint. Conditions were spectacular, with steady 10+ knot winds out of the SSE all day. The conditions not only provided one of the quickest races to West River in recent years, but it also made for a great evening on the dock at Pirate’s Cove, or on the hook in West River.

Thanks to all who came up to Galesville this weekend.

Results posted below.

More later today after the racers complete the Race back to Herring Bay.

Cheers,

Jim
