Hi folks

I’ve been working with Sharon Hadsell with USSailing to help with the 2026 Women’s Regatta. In that discussion, she noted that she was looking to set up a US Sailing Race Officer course. There is not one planned for this area currently. One idea was for HHSA to co-sponsor  the class with another Club.

I wanted to get a guage on interest within HHSA.  I’ve found the course very helpful for running races, developing our RC procedures, understanding what’s happening in a start, and applying the RRS.  We’ve had some difficulties with starting sequences and RC communications in the last couple of years.  The course would go a long way in improving our program.

Please post a note here in this thread if you are interested in attending this course.

Cheers

I would be interested. Are there any prerequisites?

None that I am aware of. It should be the basic course.

I am interested.

Will she be the PRO for the Women's Regatta? I hope so.

I would be interested.

Thanks,

Jim

I'm interested!

Thank you folks. Southern Maryland Sailing Association (Solomons) is onboard for a facility. We are looking at mid January or February. There is an advanced class being held at Eastport YC on Jan 31-Feb 1.

Wow! What a crazy 24 hours.

Bottom Line, Up Front: The Basic Race Management Seminar (BRMS) will be held on February 21, 2026 at Severn Sailing Association. (SSA) in Annapolis Register at: Race Officer Seminar Calendar. (I'm not sure they are listed on US SAILING yet but stay tuned)

SMSA will host the course on January 25. Register at SMSA Race Officer Training, Unfortunately the day after the 2026 HHSA Gala - 1/24/2026.

The Story: SSA was too far out on the calendar for it to be visible on their website. US Sailing is on holiday through the 20th and wasn't able to do some things. That's the short story. SMSA was really onboard with the idea and very cool with the last minute changes.

I'm not sure if I will make the SMSA training due to the Gala but I hope to support their CBYRA events. Take a look at their calendar as you plan your 2026 campaign. SMSA CBYRA Event

Its going to be a busy winter!

Cheers,

Deck Boss
