A big thank you to Jason for an outstanding presentation on fire safety and to Jayne for her masterful job as emcee/co-presenter. I really liked the interactive nature of working through those scenarios. I think those who were present will be evaluating our fire safety equipment, placement of PFD's and fire extinguishers and locating all our shutoff valves!

Please join us for the next Women Underway meeting on Zoom on Thursday, June 18, 2020, from 7-8:30 p.m.
FIRE! Interactive Boat Fire Safety Zoom Seminar You smell smoke on your boat! What do you do? A fire while on the water is something you hope you never have to deal with. Preparing for this emergency will put you in a better position to respond. Captain Gary Culver (MD DNR) will present several scenarios for boat fires in an interactive session. In this "hands-on" session we will break you into groups on the Zoom call to brainstorm how to respond to certain situations, then come back together to learn the best way to handle each emergency situation.
Captain Culver, Aquatic Sampling Manager and Vessel Captain, serves as captain aboard the NOAA research vessel Chesapeake, and a variety of smaller outboard federal vessels. He co-develops and instructs NOAA laboratory's annual Small Boat and Emergency Refresher Training, the In-Water Safety Equipment Training, and additional safety training courses for assigned state and federal staff. He also runs a lighthouse tour boat and sails his own 30 foot sailboat out of Knapps Narrows.
Bring your questions and get ready to work together and learn. Please register for this event on www.HHSA.org. The event is free.
