2020 Leukemia Cup, 5 September
Jason Fox
So far looks like it looks like it's just Nauti Paws and Fine Tuned from HHSA... anyone else planning to participate this year?  The organizers approached me about a collective HHSA Fundraising Team for potential recognition.  AYC Labor Day Regatta is the following day, too.
Peter Dezendorf
Jason: I heard back from the LC organizers and single handed boats are allowed. So I think I will be signing up.

From the 28th Annual Annapolis Leukemia Cup Regatta event:

Hello Leukemia Cup Racers!

The RC and OA, with the support of the LLS, have decided that in order to provide the best experience for the most number of racers entered in the 2020 Annapolis Leukemia Cup, a pursuit-style race will be run for the following classes racing on the Chesapeake Bay.
CRCA Non-Spinnaker & CRCA Spinnaker
J/30, J/35, J/70 J/80, J/105
Leukemia Cruising
PHRF A0/A1, A2, B, C, N
==> There will be NO windward-leeward courses for any of these classes.
==> The Multihull class will race on Chesapeake Bay and will have a separate RRS 26 start, which will be signaled after the last pursuit racer starts.

The Alerion Express 28, Cal 25, Harbor 20, and Herreshoff 12.5 classes will sail windward-leeward courses on the Severn River.

As a reminder, the formal SIs will be posted by 2000 on Wednesday, 19 August 2020. Please contact the RC via email at race.committee@eastportyc.org with any questions or comments. Thank you for your consideration and support of the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society!

Revolution will be participating.

I just received from Keith Jacobs the SI for the Herring Bay Fleet with the accompanying email below asking for comments by Sunday

Michael, Rob,

The SIs for the race from Herring Bay to Annapolis in support of this year's Leukemia Cup are attached for your review & feedback.

I WOULD APPRECIATE YOUR FEEDBACK BY 1800 ON SUNDAY, 16 AUGUST. This will give me a few days to address any comments & ensure the SIs are posted on Wednesday, 19 August, as stated in the NoR.

I'd suggest dropping "O".

That said, Revolution will be doing the Annapolis start with the CRCA spinnaker class in the original notice.

But, if HHSA is going to support a race from HHSA A to R2 finish, more reason not to have an HHSA race on the same day.

Doug

I think we might have convoluted two conversations:

- Leukemia Cup on 5 September with HHSA Start: Fine Tuned is planning an HHSA Start to avoid going up the night before or getting up at the crack of dawn.  As of now, Revolution, Fine Tuned, Nauti-Paws, and Firth of Tay are the only registered HHSA Boats; not clear where the other two are planning to start from.  We should sort this out amongst our HHSA selves soonest.

- Proposed HHSA Poplar Island Race conflicts with Hospice Cup on 19 September.  So far 1, maybe 2 of us are doing that one, but no one registered.  Given a pursuit start and cancelled party, I'm likely to finish and sail back to HHN if I do it... therefore would prefer Poplar on Sunday to get two races in instead of having to choose one over the other.

Jason

Albert Bossar
Allegiant is considering doing the HHSA leg, up but would most likely turn and burn as don't have specific plans for the AYC portion the next day. Yet to be determined.

But would participate in the Poplar Island Race on the 19th.
Peter Dezendorf
I am new to this racing stuff, but I agree the EYC "O" doesn't seem to add anything. The course diagram shows passing G83A and "SR" to port, though that is not stated in the body of the SI.

The rest seems OK. Except I need to buy a "5" pennant.
Michel
Thanks to all, I sent the comments in
Michel
And here is the answer. BTW I am planning on taking care of RC for the start, I will be getting back to you in a bit to make sure I know who is coming.

Thanks, Michel.

Our standard approach to defining the course is what is shown in SI 8, which states the diagram shows on which side each mark is to be passed. Feedback from competitors is that it is clear & easy to understand.

While EYC "O" may not seem to add anything, it actually plays an important role in the event. There are two other courses that will finish at R2 that day - one sailing a government marks race in the location, and another that will race south from Rock Creek. To align all groups, including the Heering Bay Fleet, for a square line to the finish line & help deconflict some of the traffic we want all boats to keep EYC "O" to their starboard side when they sail past it.

Thanks for taking the time to review the SIs & thanks for supporting Leukemia Cup.

I was approached again today by the organizers about an HHSA Fundraising Team.  Any interest?  Might be good to elevate our visibility as a club.  Also provide an opportunity for all members to donate to 'the cause' without having to chose between any one boat.
Michel
OK I have three boats at the start at 10:00 am on Saturday. They are Firth of Tay and Nauti Paws. The third boat I don't believe is with us, it is Cricket.

I will be on station at 9:30. at Mark A. Right now it looks like good weather and a breeze from the North, should be a very nice beat up to Annapolis.

Michel
Michel
Actually Cricket was in there by mistake. It's only going to be Nauti Paws and Firth of Tay. I will be sure the line is long enough!

EYC asks that if you retire, have an emergency or are otherwise out of radio range, communicate with them at 410.271.7193

They also amended the SIs as Peter noticed the coordinates for 83 A were wrong, attached are the revised SI
Keith
Michel,

Jubilee is entered.

Can we get a few more HHSA boats on the line? This is such a great cause! Surely some more skippers and crew will join the fun and raise some money to help find a cure.

Thanks,
Keith

Great Keith

And all please remember that even if you don't race you can give through Team HHSA on the Leukemia cup website.

Allegiant.. note there's a spin start (I know wind will be from the North so you won't get to use it 😉)

Keith, let me know if you want to join it (they will move all your donations as "credit" to the team; did this to try and raise visibility of the club).

Peter Dezendorf
Jubilee will be participating? Oh, there goes my chance at line honors....

Michel: I know for HHSA events channel 68 is used for RC communications. Will you be on channel 73 as stated in the LCR HBF SI?
Michel
Yes sir, Channel 73

Keith
Jason,

Thanks, I'll let folks know that they can contribute directly to Team HHSA.

Hope others will take a minute to donate to boost HHSA's contribution.  It is really easy!  We need some help to reach the goal of $5,000.

So Allegiant has entered. Glad to support HHSA and the LC charity.

I saw that there seems to be a Team HHSA for donations, but not sure how we join that team.

Also, we had intended to race Spin Fleet, but seems we are only one, so Michel, we may need to change fleets to non-spin.
Albert Bossar
I found the link to Team HHSA. Disregard that portion. Will make a donation to that link to support HHSA.
Keith
Bert,

Thanks for entering!

All wind models are predicting wind out of the north, going west and light later in the day.  So if that holds up there won't be a spinnaker leg - given that the race starts in Herring Bay and ends out in the Bay at R2 - a beat all the way.  I see that the boats starting North of the Bay Bridge are all entered in the Spinnaker Class.

Would be good to see a couple more HHSA boats entered - entries don't close until tomorrow evening.

Take care,
Keith

Thanks Keith much appreciated. Look forward to seeing everyone who can make it on SAT. Glad to be supporting HHSA and a good cause. Sadly we won't be out tonight, but hope everyone has a good Free For All. See you all SAT.

Jason, thanks for adding Allegiant to the HHSA Team fundraising site.
Michel
All

Given the wind conditions it appears it may be better if all HHSA boats sail in the Non-Spin class.

I was recently advised by EYC that last minute class changes (on the starting line) are not desirable.

So for those who decide to join the race, please take this into account.
Albert Bossar
We have changed over to non-spin. Confirmed with Val.Many thanks Michel and Keith for the help.
Michel
Final scratch list is four boats, all PHRF Non Spin. Warning signal at 10:00 am. There should be enough wind that is forecasted to weaken in the pm. So let's do an on time start. See you all at HHSA A at 9:30.
