HHSA Frostbite Racers. We are looking good for a breezy start to the 2020 Frostbite series. Delirium will be your RC boat today. We expect to get 2 races in. Right now the conditions are excellent. Winds are expected to build but should remain sailable.

See you out there!
Kevin Sherwood
Does Delirium still have the RC equipment?

We should have a beautiful (calm) day tomorrow, but hopefully w/ fewer powerboat wakes we can get a race or two in.

Thanks,
Kevin
Michel

RC equipment should be in locker. Combo is 3-6-9-8.

Please call me anytime at 301 536 8040

Everything is back in the shed.
I’m happy to meet you there to help you sort it out. And call me if you have questions. Our slip is very close to the shed.

If anyone really wants to relive the thrilling 4 knots of breeze we had here's a brief video from the upwind leg:

Kevin,

Not only a great RC effort, it is nice to get photos and drone footage reflecting the great day on the water!

Thanks Kevin, beautiful images.

Folks we still need RC for the 22, 29 and Dec 6.
Michel
First Frostbite was wet
Second frostbite was windless
Third frostbite had too much wind

We still need RC for the 22, 29 and Dec 6 !!!
Michel
Sunday may be the best frostbite of the season yet. Some wind and no rain! However I don't believe anyone has volunteered for RC.

Michel
Eunice - Liberty Pre
Liberty Prevails will do RC on Sunday. We most likely will have only me and Ted, so bear with us.

Yayy Liberty Prevails!

Two more and then it's a wrap

Huge thanks to Eunice and Ted on LP for a great race today!

I owe everyone a background on the withdrawn protest as part of my discussion with Albert Bossar.

Allegiant had three crew members tending sails outside the cockpit without PFDs on while on the downwind leg of race 1 (safety violation of SIs). I hailed them, they acknowledged but then didn't remedy the situation in my estimation, so I protested. However, I failed to follow protest procedures precisely (RRS 61.1). Allegiant and I later admitted both our faults over the phone, so rather than a counter-protest, I agreed to withdraw my protest and instead share the lessons learned:

  1. With all the COVID rules that are different this year, It's easy to forget that PFDs are required outside the cockpit while racing Frostbites as a safety precaution. Water temps were 56 degrees today; cold enough for a MOB to turn into a tragedy without a PFD.
  2. There is a procedure for protesting that isn't as simple as we tend to remember it is in the heat of the moment. It's there to protect both parties and drive issues to resolution on the water; it's worth a quick refresh of 61.1 and HHSA's protest procedures.
  3. Protests don't have to be a bad thing or engender ill will, especially if they are properly handled and and there is an opportunity to exonerate/resolve the issue on the water and both boats can continue sailing. A legitimate infraction let go in the moment and left for discussion at the bar means the 'guilty party' is left with withdrawal as their option.

Thanks again for a great day on the water!

All

Just arrived out West. Will update the website etc a bit later. But note that Allegiant will be RC next weekend so we only need one more.

Looks like a beautiful day yesterday! 9 boats, 3 races. Well done folks.

RC needed for next Sunday. Weather looks promising.
Albert Bossar
Hi all, checking on if there are any intentions to race tomorrow from others and if we even have an RC?

I was at South today, and Allegiant was pretty much in the mud. Seems we will continue to have NNW winds, so not sure if enough water in the bay to get out, especially for those at North.

So trying to get a pulse of where folks are at?

thanks,
B.

Bert,

Jubilee is hard aground also.  We had planned to come out but the chances of being able to leave the slip, let alone get thru the channel look grim.  Not sure if Jim was planning to take Avalon out, but also doubtful he could get out.

Webcam at HHN shows level almost 1.5 feet below normal low.

Will reevaluate in the AM.

Thanks,
Keith

Eunice - Liberty Pre
Liberty Prevails was planning to go out. I took her over to North last week but since she draws a mere 3'6", I don't think depth (or lack thereof) will be an issue.

We got out fine. Heading out to setup course, maybe A. True breeze 17kt +/-.

We are on radio channel 68.

Thanks, Doug and Revolution, for being RC. Great day for the last day of racing.

Hoping everyone got tucked back in their slips without too much trouble.

Second the shout out for Doug and crew!

Also many thanks to Jason and crew on Fine Tuned who towed us over the shallow hump near Red 2 heading into HHN.  We then put 3 crew on the boom and wriggled the rest of the way thru the shallow bits.

All good, but always sad to reach the end of the season ... when does that stop being so?

Stay safe and take it easy over the Holidays.
